A Startup Weekend is a 52-hour entrepreneurial event designed to develop a business idea. Participants present their project to a panel of judges and an audience, who select the winners who receive various prizes, including incubation. I took part in this event with two former business school friends, Samuel Errera and Colin Dargent, and our project was called "Politikly".
Our idea was to create a political social network to improve transparency and the link between the political sphere and French citizens. With the next elections (2017) approaching, we wanted to take advantage of the media attention of this event to promote our project. We also wanted as many citizens as possible to understand the political environment in which they live, so as to vote more consciously.
We managed to put together a diverse and skilled team, consisting of a designer, an Italian developer (Francesco), a project manager and myself and my fellow students. At the end of the 52 hours, we presented a model with a solid business plan.
The result was conclusive: we won a €500 prize! Although it wasn't our first prize, we were very proud of it. However, despite our small success at Startup Weekend, we decided to put an end to the project, as the team's priorities had changed.
